Summer of Love Vol 1 includes some of the rarest and never-heard Live recorded performances of Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, James Brown and Marvin Gayes, Iron Butterfly, and others, including:
“People Peoples Peoples” is a rare 7-minute live performance by Jimi Hendrix from an unknown stage location. It is a powerful and emotional track that delves into themes of heartbreak, pain, and the human condition. Released posthumously in 1971, the song has become an iconic piece of Hendrix’s repertoire. Hendrix sings, “People, people, people / You’ve got to be together once in a while / People, people, people / You’ve got to be together once in your life.” These lines suggest a plea for unity and understanding, emphasizing the importance of human connection and empathy. The repeated phrase “peoples, peoples, peoples” echoes the sentiment that we are all together, experiencing similar emotions and navigating the complexities of love and loss.
“Somebody to Love” by Jefferson Airplane became the band’s first and biggest success, reaching No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. Rare live performance of song written by Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane from an unknown concert location
“Get Off That Thing” is a rare music recording of the electrifying Live performance by James Brown at Atlanta’s Chastain Park in 1985, where he performed all of his greatest hits at the last concert event in his musical career
“What’s Going On” by Marvin Gayes is a rare one of kind Live music performance recording of Marvin Gaye at concert held at Indianapolis Speedway from his last tour in 1983. The central theme of “What’s Going On” and the album of the same name came from Marvin Gaye’s own life. When his brother Frankie returned from Vietnam, Gaye noticed his outlook changed. He put himself in his brother’s shoes and wrote a song that stands among the most tuneful works of consciousness-raising in American music.
“What’s Going On” looked at the forces shaping American culture at the end of 1969, when at that moment when hippie-era idealism crashed into the realities of poverty, of mystifying war, drug abuse and racial misunderstanding. Gaye didn’t shout, didn’t demand anything. His approach was cautious: “Father, we don’t need to escalate.” He might have set out to deliver one of those call-to-action sermons he’d heard growing up, but he veiled it in the sweet butterfly anguish of his voice and all kinds of musical seduction
Very Rare 17-minute live recording of In a Gadda Da Vida by Iron Butterfly at an unknown location or date. Though it was not recorded until their second album, “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” was written during Iron Butterfly’s early days. According to drummer Ron Bushy, organist-vocalist Doug Ingle wrote the song one evening while drinking an entire gallon of Red Mountain wine. When the inebriated Ingle then played the song for Bushy, who wrote down the lyrics for him, he was slurring his words so badly that what was supposed to be “in the Garden of Eden” was interpreted by Bushy as “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida”.[
